St. John Missionary Baptist Church was organized on July 1, 1922 at the K.P. Hall in South Bend, IN. The church purchased its first building at 130 North Adams on December 1, 1922. The following ministers served as Pastors from 1922 to 1975:

Under Pastor Jones leadership, the Church was incorporated as Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church, Inc. in 1977. Between 1977 and 1981, a new edifice was erected at 101 North Adams Street, at a cost of $750,000.
Pastor William W. Kirk served as Pastor from 1982-2002.
Under Pastor Kirk's leadership, the new church's basement was completed, a garage was built for the church's van and an Education Wing was added, at a cost of $1.4 million.
Pastor Andre' A. McGhee currently serves as Pastor/Teacher since November 2003.
Under Pastor McGhee's leadership the church has completed the following major projects: purchase of a new van; an addition to the church garage; purchase of three parcels of land across the street from the church; resurfacing of the current parking lot, installation of a new roof and skylight, and completion of the lower level of the Education Wing to include additional classrooms, a multi-purpose room and an elevator. Most recently Multimedia/ technological enhancements have been made throughout the church and multipurpose wing.
